The Bigfoot

The 2021 ornament for the Happy Halloween series is an up-close shot of Bigfoot. As you can see, this guy really does have BIG feet. Looking at him like this, he bears a striking resemblance to a werewolf. They are both covered in hair. They both are usually seen in the woods or a similar nature scene, and they are both more visible under the full moon. The big difference, however, is that a werewolf actually looks more like an upright wolf than a human, but Bigfoot looks remarkably more human than animal. Is he the missing link? Does he represent evolution or de-evolution? I guess that depends on the point of departure. If he began as a type of ape, then this is progress. But what if he began as a man whose humanity slowly disappeared? Like some type of Ron Swanson-esk character on steroids. Or is it something else entirely? Are there whole Bigfoot communities?

Bigfoot sightings have been claimed in just about every continent, and in many states in the US.  There are many genuine believers in the existence of Bigfoot and even conferences held to discuss new findings and theories. Bigfoots are believed to be from 6 to 9 feet in height and are often seen hunting wild boar or deer. They are quite smelly, giving off a skunk-like or sulfur-ish (think rotten eggs) scent. Russia, France and Germany have even placed Bigfoot on the endangered species list, according to www.softschools.com.  Native American stories about Bigfoots have been around for hundreds of years. Because it typically appeared during the dusk to dawn hours, American Indians considered Bigfoot to be a type of spiritual being. 

October 20 is National Sasquatch Awareness Day. ​

Driving between Houston and Austin this October, I suddenly had my own Bigfoot sighting - albeit a concrete statue one. It was still creepy.
